What is an Italian Wine without Italian food and vice-versa?
2 Veneti Wine List is a cascade of a great wine selection!
By sipping a simple, refreshing and classic Prosecco sparkling wine together with a crostino di polenta con baccala’ mantecato, a typical antipasto from Veneto, you’ll immediately be transported into a lovely Venetian setting.
As we follow the wine list, you should imagine the country, with all its colourful regions; it becomes easy to understand the style of the white wines (vini bianchi) that Simon has chosen for you to match with the Anipasti created by Luca Lo Chef!
Starting from the very top right-hand corner of Italy, where the hidden gem of Friuli lies, one hundred kilometres north-east from Venice, and travelling towards the western-higher and monarchic hills of Piemonte Region, you’ll find a range of clean, lean and high in acidity white wines.
From Simon favourite Sauvignon from Friuli, as well as the dry taste, with a hint of almond of Friulano, we reach Veneto with its unique yet different expressions of the trebbiano grape found in the Lugana del Garda, Bianco Di Custoza and Soave.
The delicate notes of Pinot Bianco prepares you for the unknown, elegant and nutty Nosiola from Trentino; just in time to reach the unforgettable Gavi di Gavi, best known for its versatility and by who had the privilege to visit “La dolce vita” country.
On the contrary, the choices suggested from the regions of Tuscany, Umbria and Marche, with their different elevations, temperatures and soil, give more complexity to the white selection.
Take the irony Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the elegant Vermentino di Bolgheri and the international grapes, like Chardonnay from Umbria or the white vinified Pinot Noir delle Marche, both outstanding in their Burgundy style expression,
All always well thoroughly thought to marry with the complex ingredients found in the Primi Piatti like Veal baby ravioli with truffle cheese fondue or th homemade ravioli filled with lamb and rosemary sauce.
It is usefull to know that most of the wines produced in Italy are named by the area of production and not the actual grape, but is also important to understand the marriage between the wine and the regional food that it accompanies! This is the unique heritage of our country!
The outstanding area of Valpolicella in Veneto, with different styles of vinification and time aging, produces a range of wines with different level of intensity and pleasure. From the easy drinking wine of Valpolicella, to move in more deep, juicy taste of Ripasso and ending with more structured and deep taste of Amarone della Valpolicella, you’ll come to agree that all this wines are performing perfectly with venetian pasta and bean soup or Bigoli with anchovies & onions.
Veneto, together with Friuli and Trentino are the expression of very deep and structured cabernet sauvignon and merlot wines, great with grilled calf liver.
As we move slowly to the west, we are going to meet a breathtaking scenario of sweet hills and mountains, where the most famous and elegant wines of Piedmont are produced in both the areas of Langhe and Monferrato.
The wine list is outfitted with modern and traditional styles; by starting with Barbera and Dolcetto from Alba, these wines are the expression of authenticity and simplicity to match with the entire menu, from primi piatti to the important meats.
If you wish to find more ‘serious’ wines from Piedmont, Barbaresco and Barolo are the queen and the king of the situation. Elegant with more approachable taste is Barbersco and well structured and masculine is Barolo, by matching perfectly wild meats like breast of duck or any truffle based dish.
Due Veneti wine list ends with the other well known region by the wine connoisseurs: this is Tuscany.
The list is very complete with a full range of appellations and outstanding vintages; Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Brunello di Montalcino, his ‘baby’ Rosso di Montacino, Chianti Classico/Riserva all produced by Sangiovese grape, the backbone of most of this wines and its very distinctive taste of raspberry, cherries and anisette flavours is the most welcoming wine for most of the Italian recipes and naturally to be married with beef tagliata.
Tuscany is also the house of the notable and estimated Super Tuscan wines rich of their complexities, found certainly in the likes of Tignanello, Solaia and Sassicaia in their most important vintages.
Bevi e godi (drink and enjoy) is the saying that makes our style...
